# About Winchester Ramblers

Winchester Ramblers is part of the national [Ramblers](https://www.ramblers.org.uk) organisation — the UK's biggest walking charity.

We are a friendly and active group with a **comprehensive programme of over 300 walks a year** and a lively social programme. Our walks take place on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays, ranging from gentle 2.5-mile strolls to more challenging 12-mile days out.

### 🌄 Our Walking Areas

We walk all over Hampshire — and regularly venture beyond:

- **Winchester and surroundings** — the historic city and its chalk downland
- **South Downs** — England's newest National Park, on our doorstep
- **Itchen Valley** — tracing the famous chalk stream from source to sea

- **Test Valley** — through water meadows, thatched villages and drove roads
- **New Forest** — ancient woodland, ponies and open heathland
- **Further afield** — Berkshire, Dorset and Wiltshire

### 🥾 Our Walks

**Walk Schedule:**
- **Monday** — typically 5–8 miles
- **Thursday** — typically 4–7 miles
- **Sunday** — typically 6–12 miles

All walks are led by experienced, trained walk leaders. New walkers are welcome to join us for **up to three walks free** before we ask that you join the Ramblers.

### 🎉 Social Programme

Walking is just the start. Winchester Ramblers has an active social calendar — including:

- End-of-walk pub lunches
- Annual dinner
- Social events and talks
- Guided walking holidays and away weekends

It's a great way to make friends and explore the countryside together.
